I’ve been drinking coffee regularly since I started college. I originally would have a cup to keep myself awake while I studied for tests and then in the morning so I could kick-start my brain for the day. Being a broke college student, I grew accustomed to drinking plain, black coffee because that is all that my budge would allow. So naturally, when I got my first “real” job, I felt like I could splurge a little bit more.

My love for specialty coffee grew about as fast as the increase in coffee shops that carried it. At $3 and $4 a cup, specialty coffee isn’t cheap, but one thing it is, is addictive! I would run through the drive-thru before I went to work in the morning to get the next best flavor, or better yet, seasonal flavors of my favorite drink I would have plenty of iced coffee also, a new love of mine over the past few years!  I can’t imagine how much I’ve spent on just coffee over the years. In fact, I don’t know that I would want to try for fear of it depressing me! But, I wanted to track my savings this month by buying International Delight Iced Coffee and sharing the results with you.

Since I have become a work at home mom, I have found myself cutting back on a lot of expenses. After all, work time is hard to come by when you have to chase a 2-year old around the house! Every minute becomes more precious! So, I have been trying to save back more money so that I can remain ahead of the game and in control of my financial freedom, rather than living paycheck to paycheck.

My specialty coffee expense desperately had to be slashed.

Since I love iced coffee, I jumped at the chance to try out International Delight’s new line of Iced Coffees. You can find out more about this line on the International Delight Facebook Page. To me, iced coffee is a treat. Now, a treat that I can purchase at my local Walmart instead of having to drive-thru and spend $3-$4 per cup. International Delight Iced Coffee comes in 3 flavors – Original, Mocha and Vanilla. The best thing is that I can get up in the morning and pour myself a glass without having to wait for it to brew. Being a mom of a busy toddler definitely produces some VERY tiring mornings. Most mornings I wake up and I feel like I am immediately whisked to several tasks and don’t even get to sit down until noon. The time that I save by simply pouring a cup is a pretty big deal around my house in the morning!

The vanilla flavor is my favorite. I also like to throw in a few ice cubes just to make it extra cold. This tends to wake me up in the morning.

To track my savings, you may notice the new calculator tracking widget in the sidebar. Each day that will tell you how much I am saving by drinking International Delight Iced Coffee vs getting a coffee at the coffee shop. So far it is already more money than I expected! But, I can rest easily knowing that this month, that money is in my pocket! By the time the month is over, I should have enough to pay an entire bill with the money I have saved up! It will definitely put me ahead financially next month!
